"Capabilities function"??

Just downloaded and installed Pro Ver 3.6-- have been using 3.5. With the intention of recording a new .wav file from vinyl, I clicked on Red record button, entered .wav file name and got a pop-up with:

"The specified format is not supported or cannot be translated. Use the Capabilities function to determine the supported format.

--can't find the word "Capabilities" anywhere in the Help document with reference to file formats??
--.wav is the only possible file format allowed in the pull-down file type menu.
--tried several variations, specifying .wav, not specifying, etc., but no help.
--same results using File menu item "Record New Wave File..."
--I'm running under Windows 2000, with 2Gb RAM-- have been using Wave Corrector extensively, for other than record functions, with no problems.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, sam :?

"Capabilities function"??

Well, I figured out why the record function didn't-- I had another recording program open and connected to Line In. (But why is that a problem-- digital impedance overload, maybe?)
But I still don't know what the "Capabilities function" is, or how to access it??

Hi Sam

Yes, the error message is rather confusing. It's generated by the Microsoft multimedia interface and Wave Corrector simply passes the message on to the user. So basically, it's a message for the programmer rather than the end user. The capabilities function allows the programmer to determine the capabilities of a sound device and to only send commands to the device that it is capable of responding to.

I should have intercepted the message and translated it into something more user friendly.
