Speed change

Now this one had me going for a bit. Checked my wires all the way through before I figured it out.

I never realised before that if you select speed change that it only then records one channel - presumably because 78's are mono. I have done a few and also a few early 45 singles on 33 1/3 using a ratio of 0.741. Today I tried a very early Stereo 12" 45 and, not being bothered to take the platter off and shift the rubber band, did it on .741 - and got just the left channel.

I suppose that is intended but I can't see it in the documentation anywhere.

Hi Rick

No, the recordings should all be stereo. If your system is only recording one channel then something is wrong. The speed change option is a little experimental and sounds as though your system does not support the feature. Is this happening on your Mac under crossover? If so, it would be worth checking with the 'wineskin' option to see if the same thing occurs.

let me know how you get on.

I should have guessed. Another reason to try out Wineskin.

Bad news - I have installed it into a WineSkin Wrapper and the symptoms are identical. (I had a few other problems as well but it is not worth doing unless it fixes something).

I have disconnected the plug for the right channel Line-In and, monitoring at normal speed, just shows Left as it should. If I click 78/45 it shows both channels identical. Custom is OK at 1:1 but any other value makes it fail.

Perhaps it is the version of Wine - I used the Wineskin 2.2 with Engine WS7Wine1.3.20 - do you think a different one would help - how did you install it?

Or it is the Mac Pro (rather than a laptop or iMac)?

Hi Rick

Unfortunately I don't know what could be causing this. However, I can confirm that I experience the exact same problem on a Mac Mini running Wineskin and Wine v1.3.19

I also have a netbook running Linux (Mint) with Wine v1.2.2. This does not exhibit the problem.

I'll try to investigate further as time permits. However, i suspect it is an Apple problem that may not be solvable. The speed conversion feature was always experimental and I suspect the Apple hardware just doesn't support the operation properly.

good luck
