Maximum File Size

I think I have found a small bug. WC will quite happily record a huge file (2.67GB when I stopped) that it can't subsequently open to process. No immediate problem, I split it up using Audacity but there should probably be a check somewhere. This is with the prod version, not got around to the Beta yet.

Hi Rick

Thanks for the report. Yes, the program is supposed to stop recording at 2GB (3GB for 24-bit files). Can you let me know what 'start/stop' options you had set in the Recording window?

This has happened to me as well. I use the manual start/stop settings.

My workaround was exactly the same as Rick's.

I would prefer it if the programme didn't stop at 2 or 3GB, as the vast majority of my recordings are unattended.

I use start on first signal (when I put the stylus down) and stop when no signal (which gives me long enough to change disks for sets). This one was exceptional as it was 6 disks.

Thanks Rick

I'm still pondering what to do about this. Glenn says he'd prefer it to go on recording over the 2GB limit and I can see his point. You wouldn't want the program to shut down towards the end of a very long recording.

I may just put up a warning if you go over the limit saying the file will need to be externally split.

In my case it's happened once in over 6 years working with WC.

I don't think you need to do anything, Derek.

Just my 2p

I can see Glenn's point, just that I think that it is wrong for a program to write a file that it can't subsequently read.

I don't disagree, Rick. It's just that I'd rather Derek focus on what's more important....namely the upgrades I want....
