3.5 beta build 3

Hi Derek

I've just downloaded the latest beta and, having had a quick play with it, I have a couple of comments / suggestions.

Firstly the spectrogram looks as though it could be really useful when I get more familliar with it. I assume there will be some guidance in the manual when the full release comes out but even without this I was starting to recognise the 'signature' of elusive clicks. I observed however that the spectrogram does not appear to update while manually editing a correction and wondered whether if it did so, that would help with the manual adjustment and reduce the amount of auditioning required when fine tuning the position and width of the correction. (The spectrogram does of course update when the correction is applied.)

Secondly while auditioning a few corrections I observed once again an effect I commented on before in the forum ... highlight= but which , based on the lack of responses, doesn't seem to affect or disturb other users. This is the spurious audible click which sometimes occurs at the very end of the short section being auditioned, perhaps a very short fade at the end of the playback would help with this.

Hi Ray,

I observed ... that the spectrogram does not appear to update while manually editing a correction...

The old spectrum view shares this quality. I agree a continuous update would make it more intuitive, as it is in the waveform view.

The "spurious audible click" you mention happens on my machine as well. I think it may be indicative of a DC bias on the signal, but I can't be sure. It reminds me of the type of click one gets with audio gear when switching between inputs. A mini fade on playback is not a bad idea, if it works.

Yes, these are both good ideas.

I'm not sure how easy these will be to implement so they might have to wait until a further release. However, I'll see what I can do.

Hi Derek

I've just had a quick look at the the build 4 beta.
Thanks for implementing the suggestion to update the spectrogram when adjusting corrections. It does indeed look as though it could be really useful. In a quick trial I could clearly see, as I increased the width, the blue upward streak of an under corrected click being replaced by the green downward blur of overcorrection which removed musical content. At the optimum the spectral content of the music was almost undisturbed through the corrected click.

However I observed that the spectrogram only updated in response to correction width adjustments made with the mouse, width and position adjustments made with the arrow keys did not lead to an update of the spectrogram. If you can add this too it will be superb!

Although it's not documented you seem to have fixed the spurious click at the end of the audition passage too, although I haven't done a sufficiently extended trial to confirm this.

Keep up the good work

Hello Ray

Well spotted! Another oversight on my part, I'm afraid. I've fixed it now along with the other bugs mentioned in this forum.

I haven't changed the audition code. I think you must not have tested for long enough to experience the click.

all the best
