More selective correction filter

Postby dougc314 » Tue Jan 11, 2005 8:28 pm

I have processed quite a few LP's now, (over 100). One feature that seems to be very useful would be the ability to remove detected clicks with a certain range of values. Similar to the vew filter that we have now. However the correections that I would like to remove are the weak ones. In my experience they are most likely bonafide musical transients. The way to I would usually like to apply such a rule would be from a block. In that way the middle of a cut could have the small corrections removed, while leaving the quieter entrys and exits alone. - where the weak corrections are more likely to be audible clicks.

Quite probably neither the bonafide transients, their "corrections", or tha few real clicks that weak in the middle of a musical passage are audible. However it bugs me that the corrections are mostly really in the music and being altered for no reason.

Yes a number of users have asked for this and it is a good idea.

You can already partially do this by marking a block and rescanning at sensitivity 1 or 2. Sensitivity 2 excludes clicks of magintude 1 and senitivity 1 excludes clicks of magnitude 1 and 2. However some more detailed rescanning options would be agreeable, though there's a contant battle between keeing it simple for novice users and providing lots of options for more advanced users. Perhaps a coice of interface is the answer.

Unfortunately, click detection is a very inexact science and the click maginitude values are only an estimate. Therefore, there will always be a measure of auditioning necessary to correct any mistakes made by the program.
