OT: Cleaning up MP3s

I've recently obtained a set of MP3's taken off an old 70's vinyl record, complete with faithfully reproduced digital pops and crackles.

What would be the best way to clean this up? I suppose I could merge the MP3s; convert it back to WAV and use WaveCor but wouldn't this lose to much fidelity?

The fidelity has already been lost to the mp3 compression, so it wouldn't matter unless you intend to recompress after you've cleaned the files.

Yes, as Glenn says, you've nothing to lose in trying this.

One of the problems with MP3 compression is that it tends to smooth out the edges of vinyl clicks making them much more difficult for Wave Corrector to detect. So the results will be no where near as good as if you had the original wave recordings.
