Sound card recommendations

I'm using a SoundBlaster Audigy card, and am wondering what sort of benefit I might realize by ugrading to a better sound card for recording from LP to CD (using decent equipment, e.g. Linn Sondek turntable).

What do people recommend?

In my opinion, the Audigy card is more than adequate for your purposes. You'd need to have exceptional quality vinyls for you to notice the difference from a better card.

However, if you do decide to upgrade the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 gets very good reviews and I can personally recommend it.

I also use the M-Audio 2496 Soundcard, and am very happy with it. This is probably the best internal soundcard one can purchase. For any further improvement, you'd have to opt for an external box. Although at line-level inputs, an internal card should be fine. This is in spite of the fact that many of my hi-fi colleagues had reservations regarding noise from the computer with an internal card. I've not detected any from my personal experience.

The 2496 provides gold-plated RCA jacks for line in/out. There is neither a speaker output, which I thought was another advantage. It also has a very flexible mixer/patch consul.

Hi Chris. I am also using a 2496 (there is an updated driver available if you have an old version). I have lost all volume control from my M-audio mixer panel. I can see signal coming in for recording and I can see signal coming out for playback but my only control is via my external preamp. I know I'm missing a setting some where. Any ideas?
